In short
UKR status: the licence is recognised while temporary protection lasts (currently until 4.03.2027). Residence card, CUKR, visa: 6 months from the start of residence, then an exchange. Taxi and ride-hailing: exchange straight away, even with UKR status.
UKR status
EU Regulation 2022/1280 recognises Ukrainian licences in the EU for people under temporary protection. Protection is extended until 4 March 2027.
Residence card and CUKR
A CUKR card is a residence card. With it the general rules for foreign licences apply: 6 months from the start of residence, then an exchange.
Taxi
- Bolt, Uber, FreeNow and regular taxis require a Polish licence
- UKR status doesn't help for taxi work — art. 27e of the Road Transport Act
- The exchange is usually exam-free — Ukraine is party to the Vienna convention
Exchange
You need a valid licence, passport, residence document, proof of residence, a photo and the fee. Some offices require a sworn translation. Verification in Ukraine can take 3–4 months.
