Replacing a Polish licence: new surname, expiry, indefinite licence

Change of surname or details

After marriage or another change of details you apply to replace your licence within 30 days. Polish licences don't show an address, so moving house doesn't require a new one.

Expiry

Licences issued since 19 January 2013 are valid for a limited time: category B for 15 years. Apply early: production takes up to 9 working days and some categories need an up-to-date medical certificate.

Old indefinite licences

Old-style indefinite licences must be exchanged in 2028–2033. It's only a document replacement — no exams and usually no medical.

For foreigners

To replace the licence you need a document confirming legal stay: residence card, visa or a student certificate.

Yes, through info-car.pl — with a qualified electronic signature or Profil Zaufany. The licence is collected in person at the urząd. We can do that for you.
