UKR status (temporary protection)
While you have a PESEL with UKR status, your Ukrainian licence is recognised in Poland and across the EU under EU Regulation 2022/1280. Temporary protection is currently extended until 4 March 2027. If it is extended again, the licence will remain recognised.
Residence card, CUKR, visa
If you live in Poland on another basis — a residence card or visa — or have lost UKR status, the general rules apply: a foreign licence is valid for 6 months from the start of residence, then you need to exchange it.
Taxi and ride-hailing
To work as a taxi driver, including through Bolt or Uber, you must exchange your Ukrainian licence for a Polish one — even with UKR status (art. 27e of the Road Transport Act).
How the exchange works
Usually no exam is needed: Ukraine is party to the Vienna convention. The urząd verifies the licence in Ukraine — sometimes via the consulate, which can take 3–4 months. Your Ukrainian licence stays with the urząd and is returned to Ukraine.
